Socioeconomic inequality is harsh, jarring and clear where I am. Every day, there are cases of people compelled to behave in certain manners because they don't have money or have too much of it.
It is known that being poor can alter the very nature of brain matter. Research has shown that children from families with higher socioeconomic status do better on a number of cognitive measures, including IQ scores, reading and language batteries. They display longer attention spans too.
Being privileged with wealth, however, is not all rosy. Anecdotally, I've met people who are cushioned in their bubbles of elite Ivy League education. To them, poverty is an alien creature that can only exist in a far-flung planet.
